MWD at the Usher Building Official Opening Event

The Usher Building at Edinburgh BioQuarter brings together more than 900 researchers, health and care providers and industry leaders. The MWD team were delighted to be part of the Official Usher Opening event on Thursday 26 June 2025 during the Opening Showcase Exhibition.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General was joined at the event by the Rt Hon Ian Murray MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, and Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Drugs and Alcohol Policy and Sport to officially open the building alongside university staff and students. During the opening ceremony Dr Tedros was awarded the University’s inaugural Edinburgh Prize for Global Health Impact, in recognition of the WHO’s work to provide children across the world with access to life-saving vaccinations through its Expanded Programme on Immunization.
The Opening Showcase Exhibition highlighted the research and teaching contributions from the researchers and staff based in the Usher Building. Dr Ingrid Young and Dr Nayha Sethi presented our project plans and invited people to engage with the topics around our project, such as what care means to them, the consequences of displacing the doctor from the centre of care and can AI really be the answer to everything..! All with the help of Lego!
